To berate sections of population breeds contempt

Oh dear, I am saddened by the continuing remarks made by your regular correspondent Tommy Bray denigrating Cornish residents born out of the county.

It was not that long ago that the Nazis identified the Jews in a similar way and look where that ended up!

I am not suggesting for a moment that Mr Bray would wish the same fate on those of us not born in the county but to constantly berate a whole section of the population breeds contempt. What about the Cornish-born youngsters who seek their fortune outside the county when they could exercise their talents for the good in the county?

I am sure that over the years, Mr Bray has worked hard for ‘the county’ so why spoil it by behaving like a first class bigot and setting one section of the community against the other.

The two letters written by Mr Bray in last week’s Packet suggesting firstly that the National Trust should shell out £10million for Trevarno Gardens; no one else is prepared to pay that price so why should the National Trust just because Tommy says the gardens are ‘proper Cornish’. It is my view that at that price it would be a ‘rip-off’.

Secondly he asks why should Cornish taxpayers pay for an athletics stadium facility for the county. He says it is the foreigners who want it – rubbish – we have a number of very talented youngsters in our employ who could represent the county and England if they had a facility to train. I agree that if it is not viable so be it but don’t simply blame a section of our community without thinking it through. The uses for a Cornish stadium would be many including concerts etc.

Sorry Mr Bray, you should stop your discriminatory rantings before you cause more trouble than you can cope with.
