Our ‘leaders’ should steer clear of privatisation

When will this crowd at County Hall, particularly the so-called unelected cabinet ever learn? Surely after the privatisation of Somerset’s in-house services, G45 and other disasters, private initiatives, you would think our so-called “leaders” wouldn’t touch privatisation with a barge pole? But no! You’ve guessed it, our Tory/Independent led top brass want to put, in Councillor Double’s own words, 1,000 jobs in jeopardy.

People in all walks of life, from all political spectrums don’t want it, don’t need it and don’t understand why local jobs in house in Cornwall should be outsourced to international private companies are of which is American owned. So much for looking after Cornish jobs for Cornish people! Councillor Double (is that a Cornish name?) and his misguided cabinet should first of all consult the electorate first on such a major change of policy, would not have happened in my day. At Kerrier, councillors then had backbone and looked after their respective communities.

Still, we can always remember and kick out of touch councillors out of office at the next election. As the saying goes, “we will remember them” – look what happened to the Lib-Dems not listening! Reality soon I think.

Councillor Kaczmarek's name does not sound Cornish to me. He was the only cabinet member to vote against privatization. It is irrelevant whether someones name is Cornish or not.

I quite like the crowd at County Hall, and i think privatisation may just possibly be quite a good idea for some things. Take a look how well organised Helston recycling centre is compared with how it used to be. I don't remember all Kerrier councillors looking after their respective communties. Falmouth area was better.

Privatization will not be beneficial to the public if they sell off the 'one stop shops' etc. What happens if they subsequently choose to close them and centralize services such as locating them all in Truro. I fail to see how private firms will make a profit if they have to pay share holders. Some private firms already use call centres abroad which have proved to be less than ideal for some customers. Personally I think the whole idea of privatization of council services is wrong.

Privatisation? well if they hive of all the depts to private companies , then surely they are making their own jobs redundant we shan't need so many CC either will we?
Once this start everything will be gradually shifted and cost more in the long run.
Make it a democratic decision by allowing all councillors the right to vote not just the cabinet, and if all these councillors who say they are against it and do nothing then they are not worth another vote next year..
