Action needed to stop youth unemployment rise
11:03am Wednesday 22nd August 2012 in Letters
The spirit of the Olympics, people working together and achieving what they set their minds too by setting goals – needs to be followed up here in Truro.
We would like to challenge Cornwall Council , Truro City Council, organisations and businesses around the area to create the right climate and environment that will attract 1700 new jobs to the Truro area before December 2013 (17 months away).
We are non-political residents of Truro and Kenwyn who are very concerned at the local unemployment figures especially youth unemployment which are only likely to rise as the public sector cuts actually start to bite.
We have read all about the Neighbourhood Plan which looks great but all the economic statements are very general and not specific. So we feel now is the time to act as a catalyst for all the people with power and influence in the area to have one clear focus - on jobs.
We are not criticising the Government or our Councils, it is not their role to create jobs, however they can encourage businesses to come to the area and help ones already here to expand all which could create new jobs. Ready, Steady, GO On behalf of the 1700 jobs for Truro campaign.
