WE are writing to express our complete dismay over the reported development at Swanpool, which must be one of Falmouth's most tranquil areas for locals and visitors alike.
Of course, we are only going down the well worn path of "kite flying" at the moment, which enables the council and developer to sound out the opposition and prepare their defence for later, (so predictable).
We understand that the footpath and cycle way will involve ripping out a 20-feet wide section of Swanpool Road on the garden centre side, from the pitch and putt all the way down to Swanpool beach. Can you imagine the disruption this will cause, not only to the long-suffering public, but also the wildlife?
We think most sensible people will realise who is behind this scheme and for what reason, and we are amazed at Mr Varney, who is usually most vociferous on most things, is playing "secret squirrels" with this development, but we suppose there are votes depending on his stance and it would be best to see which way the wind is blowing on this one.
We would urge the public to come out on the side of common sense and put up a resistance equal to the one displayed over the rugby ground development where the voice of Falmouth did count.

In Cornwall many people spend time on one of the sandy beaches and shingle coves along the coastline.
SWANPOOL Beach in Falmouth is preparing for this Friday’s debut drive-in with a drive-out.
The South West Coast Path begins at Minehead in Somerset and runs along the part of the Somerset coast, across North Devon, round Cornwall, then South Devon and Dorset to Poole Harbour - a distance of 630 miles. It is the longest path of its type in the country.
The youth of Falmouth were in mourning this week following the sudden death of a popular bar worker described as “a true star.”
