I do not see the problem in turning off the kennels
I READ in the Packet all the controversy over the kennels in Helston regarding having them turned off for Flora day.
I do not see what the big problem is to have them turned off for one day.
Many visitors to Helston for Flora Day will more than likely be staying in the area for more than one day and therefore could see the kennels running any other day of the week.
I would imagine most people would be more interested in looking up at the dances than staring down at the floor especially amid a mass of people.
I do not see why the council should leave themselves open to possible legal claims in the eventuality of an adverse incident occurring as a result of overflowing water.
Maybe the future situation could be revised if the public that wish to see the kennels running could be convinced to take their rubbish home with them.
As for the suggestion that businesses could take some pride in the town by putting out large boxes for rubbish, let us hope that their insurance covers them. I will be careful not to trip over one and fall in it and catch fire to myself with the discarded cigarette ends, but will everyone else?
We may be turning into a "nanny state" with regard to health and safety but it does not alter the fact that one can find oneself being served with a claim for accident or damages and the reality is that it can be costly.
