I  really don’t know where to start with this one, but I suppose it had to happen. Cornwall Council has noticed that it has pencilled in a whopping £9million of cash to help fund the dredging in Falmouth, and as we speak are wondering whether to pull the plug on the funds, (if you are reading this on Wednesday).

Now your pal the Skipper has always been torn on the whole dredging situation, and even more so on whether taxpayers should fund the work, but it seems that is how things work these days.

My view is that it should go ahead if, and only if, it can be shown that the harm will be minimal.

However the current Government does not seem to be to be very keen on evidence based planning, unless it fits their political dogma (badger cull anyone) or benefits their buddies, so can we even trust the final decision?

So what will happen? Well we can only hope that councillors see the light and at least delay the decision and ‘keep the faith’, but we also have to hope that if the plan is a busted flush, the evidence is not manipulated to dredge when it will be damaging.

But if, and it is a big IF, councillors vote to scrap the funding, maybe we will see something increasingly rare, businesses who will benefit from a plan finally digging deep and forking out the cash themselves.
