Cornwall Council’s new chief has said she is in for the duration, hopefully putting an end to the authority’s revolving door approach to top level recruitment.

After Kevin Lavery jetted off to the antipodes at the start of 2013, Cornwall Council had a year of interim management from Paul Masters before the last chief executive Andrew Kerr took on responsibility, and the hefty pay packet, for all of 17 months.

Unlike her predecessor, the new lady in the top spot has actually decided to relocate to the county which she will hold sway over, rather than trotting off to a home several counties away every weekend, like a feudal lord with a fiefdom for which they care little.

It is to be hoped that moving her family, including a son who will be attending a Cornish college, is a sign of intent, and Cornwall will finally have a chief executive with staying power, who can give the Duchy the love and attention it truly deserves.
