Falmouth might be overcrowded with HMOs and threatened by developers’ bulldozers, but at least its streets will be wonderfully quiet – if recent news is anything to go by.

Mango’s Bar has been dealt a crushing blow by council killjoys just weeks after harbourside pub the Watermans suffered the same fate.

Both faced the threat of huge fines due to noise complaints from someone who moved into the town centre – a pal of the Skipper has suggested the culprits own a holiday let nearby and were losing business – and both are now closed.

Common sense would dictate that anyone buying property in a town centre area should check what the sound levels are likely to be like beforehand.

Why should venues with no known history of trouble, that bring joy to hundreds and money into the town, be closed because of some NIMBY numpty unable to do their homework?

Perhaps the council should consider the ‘agent of change’ rule, requiring those moving into an area to make concessions, not longstanding businesses.
I don’t know how these people sleep at night. Or rather I do, and my blood boils.
