AS the Packet has stated before we, along with the majority of residents living in Falmouth and Penryn, are not opposed to students. But we are concerned that they are housed in the right place.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the rear of Home Shed in Penryn could be a good place to put several hundred students: non-residential so no noise worries, apparently quick to build, and within easy slouching distance of the campus.

However six storeys would be a step too far. Such a development would be far taller than any building currently in the two towns - barring those like the Maritime Museum tower which was designed to suit its surroundings.

Bear in mind that this is on one of the more prominent parts of the landscape, a plateau at the top of Penryn, and the main tourist approach to both towns via the A39.

Overall, this development could go some way to alleviating the pressure from the 2,500 students who could soon descend on our fair town. And a damn site quicker than the university’s own solutions.

Perhaps luckiest of all will be the students who get to live in this shipping-skyscraper - amazing views, unspoilt by a pile of Chinese containers.
