PLANS to build homes on fields at Menehay to help save Falmouth's Rugby Ground will come as a shock to some people who thought this had all gone away.

To be fair there had been signs (literally) that things had been rumbling along in the background, specifically when a sign did appear looming over Bickland Water Road claiming that the area was going to be developed for homes. It soon disappeared but now we know the reason why.

When the building of a new sports facility was mooted a few years ago at the Menehay site by the rugby club, there was a public outcry. However there was also the problem of a covenant on the land at Menehay forbidding development.

Now a little birdie tells me that the developers bided their time waiting for Menehay House, which was linked to the covenant to come on the market. Hey presto, when it did they snatched it up, got the covenant lifted and sold it on again.

Now I don't know whether this is true but it is pretty impressive work. I'm not saying it's a good or a bad thing to build on Menehay, but it is a good thing to save the rugby club.

However, I think there may be a few worried souls who are going to be extremely upset about this, then again I have heard that there is a shortage of student accommodation. Maybe this is the answer?
