IF like me you are becoming increasingly disillusioned over way unitary government in Cornwall is working then read on.
What about road signs? How about putting them all in Cornish as well as English?
I am all for retaining our heritage but when only about 300 people out of 500,000 speak the lingo is it worth it?
My other gripe this week also concerns a waste of money. How many of you know about Dott Cornwall? Not many, I guarantee, yet here we have a national programme our county council has signed up to and which is costing you me and everyone else in the county £300,000 a year.
For those who are a still wondering what on earth Dott is, in the words of a county council officials “it enables communities to work with designers and develop new answers to Cornish social and economic issues.”
It is led by a partnership involving The Design Council, University College Falmouth and Cornwall Council. While the County Council put in £300,000 of our money the Design Council has come up with another £500,000 and more money comes from the European Regional Development Fund and other public sources – in other words us.
My question is do we really need Dott and what on earth is it really doing to help Cornwall?
For those of you still in doubt, take a look at the Dott website and make up your own mind. If then you still want your hard-earned cash to go towards it so be it. Somehow I think you won’t. In a period of financial restraint and tightening of the belt, this whole exercise should be put on hold.
