London Jubilee events are nothing next to local celebrations

Your pal the Skipper has been accused of being a bit negative in the past, and while you will not be surprised to hear that I disagree, this week for one I have nothing but good things to say.
Whether you are a royalist or a republican, the simple pleasure of seeing groups, friends and communities come togther to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee was a wonderful thing to behold.
Yes the rain spoilt it a bit, but what is a British celebration without some of that stalwart spirit that has helped define the nation, and Her Majesty, through its history.
To be honest the big London organised events, pale into insignificance when put next to a school jubilee picnic, or a laugh a minute street party.
The weekend was made even more special for the Skipper thanks to a visit by friends from up-country.
Now I love Cornwall as much as the next man, maybe even more, but to see it through the eyes of visitors is always an inspiring experience.
Their enthusiasm and wonder at it’s natural beauty, food and friendly welcome would wash away the cynicism of even the most jaded heart , but don’t worry normal service will return next week.
