Her husband Neil is a fishing trawler owner/captain and she has been involved for a long time with representing the fishing industry at national and European levels. Her children are now grown up, her son runs a marine electronics business and her daughter is an officer in the Armed Forces. She was Conservative leader on Caradon District Council for four years up til 2007, and has also former representative experience through Cornwall County Council.

From a background in accountancy, he has worked in several countries, including the United Arab Emirates and US. A former Hereditary Peer, he lost his seat in the House of Lords in November 1999 in the Lords reforms of that year. Having reinvented himself as a UK Independence member he has the opportunity to use his accountancy skills to highlight any financial issues within the EU.
