Doctors surgery goes on-line for patients
Falmouth Health Centre has introduced an on line service for their patients to contact the surgery any time of the day or night.
The first phase of this new service means patients can now log on to the Health Centre web site, www.faldoc.co.uk, and order repeat medication and update their details using a secure web link.
Without visiting the practice, patients can use the Internet to quickly order any repeat prescriptions that are due. The link delivers the request directly to the practice, and once processed, patients can simply collect the prescription from the practice or from their chemist if they prefer.
Patients can update personal details via the secure web site. The new change of address facility enables patients to add or update address and contact details including home and mobile telephone numbers and email addresses.
The website has been carefully designed for ease of use for all types of people and as many different browsers as possible. It is even possible to use the service from some mobile phones. Unlike email, all data is fully encrypted to ensure patient confidentiality.
Patients moving into the area can even use the secure web site to register with the Health Centre before they move.
Practice Manager, Geoff Dennis, said "The Doctors at Falmouth Health Centre are committed to keep on improving services for patients, and as well as providing a growing range of medical services we know that patients also want up to date systems that make it easier for them in their dealings with the surgery. We are working closely with our clinical software supplier and future developments will include booking appointments via the Internet and secure messaging which will enable patients to quickly and securely contact the practice at any time.
Security is an absolute priority and while this means that some services take longer to become available we believe there can be no compromises on patient confidentiality.
Non Internet users are not left out. The more patients who use the Internet services the more time we will free up for our staff to deal with patients face to face."

Unfortunately the Health Centre's new system has been a victim of it's own success. The web site has been overwhelmed by patienst wanting to register and use the new service! A new server is being installed over Easter 2008 and the system will be fully oeprational again very soon.
