Delivery man swaps van for walking boots
A Penryn man who usually delivers pasties has swapped his van for a pair of walking boots to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Barry Phillips, 37, a delivery drover for Rowe's, will set off on Monday on a 220 mile walk across Cornwall which will take him around nine days to complete.
Barry has been training for the walk for sometime now and said his shoes are just about bedded in for the long walk.
He said: "The walk started out as more of a personal challenge for myself and it just escalated from their. I thought why not raise some money for charity at the same time.
"Since then it has gone crazy, people have been so generous with their donations. Rowe's gave me a large donation and the shops have been collecting a lot. The shop in Penryn has managed to collect £140 already.
"And there are people I work with who I know don't have much money and even they have been making donations. I would like to thank everyone for their support, it has been fantastic."
Barry plans to stay in B&B's along the way and hopes to raise around £1,500. People wishing to contribute to the total can do so at any Rowe's shop across Cornwall.
When asked why he had chosen Cancer Research Barry said: "Fortunately I have not had any family who have had cancer but I do know people who have suffered with it. It is something that is everywhere and everyone knows someone who has had it. I just thought it was a good cause."
Barry added that he would especially like to thank his wife, Lesley, for her help and support, everyone at Rowe's and all friends and family for their support.
