The funeral took place this morning of a 25-year-old Helston woman who suffered fatal injuries while driving in icy conditions.

Hannah Handy (nee Watkins) died after her silver Peugeot 307 and an Audi A6 being driven by a 22-year-old man, also from Helston, collided on the A394 at Longdowns during a snow shower earlier this month. Police said at the time that the road was slippery with icy sludge.

Mrs Handy, a former Wendron Primary School pupil and member of Porthleven Judo Club, was trapped in her car after the Peugeot landed on its roof. She had to be released by fire fighters from Falmouth, before being taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, from where she was transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where she died a week later with her family at her bedside.

Her funeral was held at Wendron Church yesterday morning, at which mourners were asked to wear "cheerful" colours - particularly pink, as this was Mrs Handy's favourite colour.

The service was followed by a private cremation. Mourners included her husband Chris, mother Betty, brother James and grandmother Marjorie.

Flowers were requested as family only, but donations were taken in aid of Cancer Research UK and can still be made care of the funeral director, Pendle Funeral Services, at The Firs Funeral Home, St John's, Helston, TR13 8HN.
