Liberal battle of the bands
Musicians from across Cornwall are being invited to enter a Battle of the Bands competition sponsored by local MP Julia Goldsworthy.
Six finalists will be selected to play a 20 minute set in front of 400 people at the Corn Exchange in Camborne, on May 21.
People who attend the event will vote for the best band on the night, who will go on to record a professionally-produced EP at Black and White recording studio in Redruth.
Falmouth and Camborne MP Julia Goldsworthy, who organised the event in conjunction with Cornwall Young Liberals, will announce the winner on the night.
Julia said: "As a local MP I want to do everything I can to support Cornwall's vibrant live music scene.
"We are lucky to have so many brilliant young musicians here, many of whom are destined for great things.
"I feel it is important for the community to encourage this talent and urge our young people to reach their full potential.
"That is why I decided to set up this Battle of the Bands competition in conjunction with Cornwall Young Liberals.
"I hope it will help in a small way to improve the chances of success for one of our promising new bands."
Bands who wish to take part must send demos marked "Battle of the Bands" to Julia's constituency office at 75 Trelowarren Street, Camborne, TR14 8AL.
The closing date for entries is Friday, April 18.

As a musician, I very much welcome the Battle of the Bands competition and applaud Julia Goldsworthy's efforts in promoting music.
Please, please however do not let this lead you into a sympathy vote for the LibDems at the next election. Remember they have imposed a unitary authority on the Cornish people against their will and supported the legislation which has led to the closure of many Cornish Post Offices and put farmers and fishermen out of business. Enjoy the music, but vote with your heart!

This is a prime example of "jumping on the BANDwagon!"
