A lack of "proper" policing in Porthleven has prompted one local resident to call for CCTV to be installed in the port.

Boat owner Brian Buxton, who has had his property targeted by vandals on a number of occasions, said he was unhappy with the way the port was being policed in the evenings and overnight.

Speaking at last Thursday's Porthleven town council meeting, Mr Buxton said matters had deteriorated since the former police house in Porthleven had been sold off.

"I think that was a very sad move," he said. "We really do need some proper policing in Porthleven in the evenings."

Mr Buxton cited one recent incident when the windscreen of his boat had been smashed by vandals. He said it was not the first time his boat had been vandalised and he had also had his workshop broken into twice and items stolen from his car.

"I really think it is high time that we had CCTV in this village, particularly with the thousands of pounds worth of boats in this harbour," he added.

Chairman Mark Berryman said the town council had had serious concerns about policing in the port but, following a lengthy meeting with Acting Inspector Richard Hockin, from Helston police station, were hopeful of seeing some improvement.
