Youngsters give rugby a try

An annual rugby primary school tournament took place in Penryn yesterday.

A total of 11 schools from the Falmouth and Penryn area brought at least one team to Penryn Rugby Club where the tag rules tournament took place.

The event is organised each year by the School Sport Partnership in Penryn for the year six school pupils. Thirteen mixed teams of 12 pupils competed in the points tournament.

The primary schools that took part in the contest were: Falmouth Primary, St Francis, Kennall Vale, Mabe Primary, Penryn Junior, King Charles Primary, Marlborough Primary, Mawnan Primary, Constantine Primary, Flushing Primary and Mylor Bridge School.

The event was made possible by Jen Wallis and Joe Williamson, School Sports co-ordinating organisers Jen Wallis and Joe Williamson.

Mr Wallis said: "It's a great way for children to get involved and enjoy sport. It's their most important event in primary school."

As well as rugby, the sports partnership also organises a whole range of sports including gymnastics, swimming and cricket for key stage one and key stage two pupils.

Even though the weather didn't shine through on the event, there were smiles on the children's faces and the event was a success.
