Community groups and committed gardeners from across West Cornwall have been recognised for their green fingered achievements at the annual Cornwall 'In Bloom' awards.

Firepit Garden, St Ives, won the ‘Goodbye to Grot Spots’ award, while Melville Durrant of the Princess May Recreation Trust, Penzance was awarded the Local Hero award. In Hayle, the ‘Adopt a Plotters for King George V Memorial Walk’ took home the Parks and Gardens award.

Organised by Cornwall Council and Truro City Council, the awards recognise the efforts of the many groups who work together to improve their neighbourhoods and get gardens and open spaces in top shape.

At the awards ceremony, at the Eden Project, seven groups won prizes worth hundreds of pounds, with many others receiving certificates in recognition of their hard work and achievement.
