The Meudon Hotel near Mawnan has been left singing the praises of Helston’s CuldRoses military wives choir after they helped raise in the region of £800 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Gaye Woods from the hotel said the choir from RNAS Culdrose were a “massive draw” to the Macmillan Kernow Open Day, which will was well supported all day Saturday.

Also there to enjoy were arts and crafts stalls, a table selling cupcakes, with a woman from In Colour helping people pick the right colour clothes to match their hair and eyes.

There were also fun card readings, with advice on how to make life decisions. Competitions included guessing how many balloons were filling a member of staff’s Smart car, guessing the name of the teddy and picking a square on a map of Cornwall to find the prize.

All the hotel’s suppliers provided prizes for a raffle and there were plenty of teas, coffees and cream teas. Saturday’s welcome sunshine gave visitors the chance to enjoy the hotel’s gardens, which lead down to the sea.

Gaye said: “It was a really fab day. We want to thank the military wives choir for coming and to everybody who came and supported us to raise the money – we couldn’t have done it without them.”

The hotel has raised money in the past for various charities, but this is the first event for Macmillan Kernow, the Cornish branch of the national charity.
