Falmouth’s Green Lawns Hotel has new owners, who are now planning a major refurbishment.

Husband and wife Nick Rudlin and Sioned Parry-Rudlin both have previous experience in the tourism and catering industry.

Mr Rudlin worked in London as director of operation at the Barbican Food Hall & Lounge, while his wife was director of sales and marketing at the Marriott County Hall.

The couple have said they plan to use their combined 40 years experience to “bring something new and fresh to Cornwall.”

They have been quoting as saying that with “wonderful hotels in Cornwall,” the expectation from customers was “sky high.”

The couple added that they wanted to “avoid being just another boutique-style seaside hotel” and had plans to complete revamp the hotel’s interior.

It has also been reported that existing general manager Nick Slade will continue in his role.

The 39-bedroom hotel on Western Terrace is known in the area for its ivy clad exterior.

It also has an 80-seat restaurant, a dining/function room that can be divided to accommodate between 80 and 250 people, and leisure facilities including an indoor pool, children’s pool, jacuzzi, gymnasium and sauna.

Outside, the hotel’s gardens and grounds have won Britain in Bloom awards eight times.

The hotel was sold through the Exeter office of Christie + Co for an undisclosed figure, having been marketed at a guide price of “offers invited” for a sale of the transfer of shares in Green Lawns Hotel (Garras) Ltd.

Simon Harvey, director of the office that handled the sale, said: “Green Lawns Hotel has been successfully run by Mr Robert Collings for nearly 40 years, and we are delighted to have secured a sale to the new owners, Nick and Sioned Rudlin.

“Nick and Sioned have moved from their jobs in the corporate hotel world, where they held senior management positions, and have relocated their family to Cornwall in order to run the hotel.

“I'm sure that Mr and Mrs Rudlin will make a huge success of the hotel.

“They have some well-thought-out plans and their experience and enthusiasm will enable them to build on the business's strong reputation both locally and further afield.”

If the hotel is going to be refurbished then it is about time! I grew up in in Falmouth but left to live overseas and came back a few years ago to attend the funeral of my mother. I stayed at the Green Lawns and I had one of the smallest and tattier rooms that I have ever had the misfortune to stay in plus no satellite TV as well and this was in 2003. The only thing that saved the stay was the very good breakfast in the morning. And the cost of the stay was not cheap either!
