Has Liskeard pinched Helston town video idea?

An online promotional video for Liskeard could sound a little familiar to the people of Helston.

It bears a marked resemblance to the video produced by Helston’s town centre manager Jonathan Birkett back in the summer, which featured residents and shopkeepers singing along to boy band Five’s hit Keep On Movin’.

This was made to accompany Helston’s bid to become a Portas Pilot town, which would have seen it win £100,000 in funding and the help of retail guru Mary Portas. Although the town missed out on a win, the video itself attracted more than 12,000 views on YouTube and was mentioned by Mary herself on a number of occasions.

And it appears Mary’s love for the video continues, as this week she appears in Liskeard’s own interpretation of the song. Townsfolk can be seen dancing and singing along, with Mary in the front row, in a bid to capture some of Helston’s success. However, in radio reports Mary gave credit to Helston for the song choice.

She said that despite missing out on becoming a Portas Pilot town Helston was doing a fine job of promoting itself around the country through its video. See it below and make your own mind up:
