Scam warning: Fake reporter

We have been receiving calls from members of the public regarding phone calls they have been receiving from a man claiming to be a reporter named Mark from the Packet group of newspapers.

The calls are reported to have been conducted in an intimidating manner.

We do not have a reporter named Mark, and our reporting team have never used intimidation while reporting on a story.

Ermm, and phone calls that try to intimidate people not to comment on the website, what i would like to know is how did he access the phone numbers.

Bess, you do not have to enter your phone number to register on the site, so it did not come from us.

I would like to add that if someone is making malicious, abusive or threatening phone calls to you - whether they claim to be from the Packet or not - then please, note the time of the call, plus any details the person may have given out, and report it to the police on the non-emergency number, 101.

David Thomas, thank you for your comment, someone opened an account for me because i am 82 and i do not have my own email address but i just wanted to place a couple of my own comments on the website. It was not me that recieved the call, it was the person that opened my account for me and the call was made to their mobile number.They have their own Packet account and make their own comments. I will pass your comment on, or no doubt they will read it for themselves. Thankyou.

Well he 'Mark' ( yeah right, like i believe that is his real name) is welcome to ring me and i will quite happily tell him where to go.
I don't get intimidated that easily.
Knowing Bess if he rang her she wouldn't be able to hear what he said over the phone anyway so he would be wasting his time. (sorry Bess lol)

I think it is obvious it is a bogus reporter, as 'The Packet' is a quality local paper with staff that are always courteous.
