THE Eden Project has scooped the top prize at an awards ceremony dubbed  the 'Oscars' of the holiday industry.

For the second year running, the team at Eden has won the, 'best UK leisure attraction' category at the British travel awards.

Seven destinations were narrowed down and shortlisted by a panel of industry professionals, it was then left to the public to decide on their favourite.

“We are really proud and humbled” said Eden operations director Ian Williams.

“In the face of stiff competition, and in a very challenging economic climate, it’s simply fantastic to think the public loves us enough to vote for us.”

Attracting over one million visitors a year, the Eden project was also awarded the prestigious prize in 2011. Created for rewarding travel companies, the winning accolade is said to be the “benchmark for excellence”.

Over one million votes were cast, with the awards taking place on 1 November at Battersea Evolution in London.
