Helston plans magical Christmas celebrations

FIREWORKS, Santa and the CuldRoses Military Wives Choir will all help Helston |celebrate a magical Christmas this year.

The town’s festive events begin on Friday, November 30, with the grand Christmas Lights switch-on event.

The CuldRoses Military Wives Choir will be performing at the event from 6.30pm to 7pm, and will also sing their new single – rumoured to be a contender for Christmas Number One slot – just before the lights go on at 7.30pm.

The switch on will be |followed by a spectacular |fireworks display.

The town will then host a second celebration on Friday, December 14, when a traditional Christmas Fayre will be held. It will also see a visit from Santa in his sleigh.

The town centre will be closed to traffic for both events from 5pm, with alternative bus stops in operation for those using public transport.

There will be stalls set up throughout the town selling gifts and hot food, with fun rides on offer for children, and local shops staying open late for Christmas shopping.

On both nights, parking will be available at the free car park near Flora Motors, with a Victorian horse drawn carriage transporting 12 passengers at a time up to the Monument for a nominal fee.

A spokesman for the Helston Business Improvement Partnership, who are organising the celebrations, said: “All in all, we’ve worked hard to create two great festive nights in Helston and we hope that you enjoy what we’ve planned. Just bring the dry, mild weather with you.

“We are also hard at work fundraising for the Christmas Lights, as the hooks that we suspend the lights from had to be stress tested this year at a cost of around £4000, which has put a big dent in the kitty, so if anyone would like to make a donation to the Lights Fund it would be greatly appreciated.”

Cheques, made out to ‘Helston Christmas Lights’ can be sent to 10, Meneage Street, Helston, TR13 8AB.
