ARTISTS will be given the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work at an auction in Falmouth next month.

The sale, organised by new venture Contemporary Art Auctions Cornwall, will see between 200-300 items of contemporary artwork under the hammer Local auctioneer Peter Kemp will be running the auction, which will take place on Friday, December 7, and Saturday, December 8.

Anyone who would like to sell their work through the sale is asked to get in touch with the organisers immediately.

Co-organiser Jenna Dunstan, 26, a textile artist from Falmouth, chose the Fish Factory venue for its burgeoning presence on the contemporary art scene. Jenna said: “Some of the work being produced around Cornwall isn’t getting the publicity it deserves. “We wanted to create a platform for artists to get their work into a collaborative exhibition.”

Auction “lots”, or items, can be in any media including sculpture, photography, painting, textiles, illustration or installation. Entry forms are available at the Fish Factory or by getting directly in touch with the organisers and the fee is £2 to £5 per lot, depending on the reserve price.

The idea for Contemporary Art Auctions arose when Matt and his father Peter Kemp, a seasoned auctioneer, found that live auctions have been on the decrease in Cornwall since the advent of online bidding platforms such as eBay. Penryn-based Peter Kemp has auctioned property, art and antiques for over 25 years in Cornwall.
