Spots and dots were the order of the day at schools across Falmouth and Penryn this week as they vied to raise some much-needed charity cash for Children in Need.

For many primary school aged kids Friday was a chance to wear their best spotty outfits to class, in return for a small donation of a pound or two.

At King Charles Primary School, pupil power helped boost the fundraising total with two pairs of girls taking it upon themselves to organise money making competitions.

Neve and Dolcie from year four held a “guess the number of Smarties” competition while fellow year four’s Maia and Katie raised £39.72 with a colouring contest that offered a Pudsey Bear as the top prize.

A spotty sports day at St Francis saw interclass rivalry put to good effect as the children brought in a donation before racing around a fun obstacle course to see if they could beat their peers.

For Falmouth Primary cake baking was again key to their fundraising success, following on from last year’s tasty bake-off.

The children were encouraged to bring in their best baked goods, which were then scored by a panel of judges before being sold at an after school charity cake sale.

At Penryn Junior School pupils brought in at least 50 pence to wear their spotty clothes on the day and Pudsey Bear even put in an appearance, with delighted youngsters lining up to put cash in his fundraising bucket.

Across the field at Penryn College young leaders from year eight put on a tombola and shoot-the-hoop contest in the sports hall, alongside other activities, to raise some charity cash in their lunch hour.

Stithians youngsters meanwhile raised more than £210 by coming in to school in their favourite pyjamas.

Elsewhere, businesses got in on the fundraising act with staff at Boots on Market Street dressing up as their favourite children’s characters while Staples in Truro raised £144.96 with their fancy dress.
