Christmas came to Culdrose Community Centre on Sunday with a festive craft fair.

Vicky Junor, who organised the event with fellow navy wives Michelle Wiggins and Natasha Wright, said the event had a “very good turnout in the morning” and in total raised over £540 for the Royal British Legion, despite the weather being “horrid.”

There were 15 stalls in total, each selling something different, to give a wide range of things for people to buy. Stalls included cards, jewelled glassware, plants, personalised dummy cords and baubles, homemade chutneys, handbags, mosaic mirrors and personalised glasses.

There were also desk calendars and baby keepsake boxes, pot-pourri decorations, sweet trees, glass pictures, bunting, felt creations and accessories and personalised fingerprint jewellery.

Father Christmas was there throughout the day, putting smiles on children’s faces.

Homemade broth, mince pies and drinks including popular hot chocolate complete with cream and marshmallows were sold.

The military wives choir The CuldRoses sang Christmas carols, as well as their forthcoming single Stronger Together for which Culdrose’s own Natasha Wright sang a solo on the day of recording.

All the money from the weekend is going towards the grand target of £10,000 that it is hoped will be raised for the RBL by March next year, when fundraising will culminate a charity gala. This will take place at the Tregenna Castle in St Ives on March 2, from 7pm. A free drink and canapés on arrival will be followed by a three course meal with a drink, plus coffee to finish, before fireworks, auction and a live jive and jazz band The Numbers Racket.

Tickets cost a minimum donation of £40. For details visit www.rblcharitygala.co.uk
