Plans to breathe new life into the Glasney Valley area have been put in motion by a new regeneration project.

The Glasney Green Space Regeneration Project held its first successful meeting last Tuesday.

The group has been formed by local residents after concerns were raised about the state of the Glasney playing field, the BMX track and the surrounding Glasney Valley area.

Prior to the meeting, town councillors held initial meetings with young people and their parents. Drainage, fly-tipping and the repair of the current BMX track were highlighted as top priorities.

Pip Carlton-Barnes, secretary of the regeneration group, said: “The attendance may have been low at the first meeting but the content was fantastic and a solid steering group was formed.

“It’s going to take a long time but we believe this is an area that deserves our efforts for our children and future generations.”

The project aims to provide two new 5-aside football pitches, play equipment, a new shelter, a sensory garden and areas for families to picnic together, catering to both visitors and locals.

The group will now hold a door to door survey in order to gain a “deeper insight into the community’s ideas about the future development of the area,” Pip said.

The next meeting will be held at 7pm on February 5, 2013 at The Space, Penryn Rugby Club.
