A home carer who was still affected by the alcohol she had to drink the previous evening skidded on black ice at a roundabout in Helston the following morning and wrote off her car.

Stina Nicholson, aged 37, of Troubridge Road, Helston, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates' Court to drink driving on November 18.

Ron Butler, for the CPS, said police had been called to the roundabout at 8.10am and found Nicholson had driven straight across it, damaging two other vehicles and some street apparatus. She later tested at 66mcg, nearly twice the legal limit.

Her solicitor Paul Simons said she had been drinking the night before but had stayed the night, not intending to drive. The following morning the partner of her friend was late for work and she offered to drive him, but at the roundabout skidded on black ice.

Nicholson was fined £150 and £105 costs and surcharge, and banned from driving for 17 months.
