A spectacular Dutch tall ship has confirmed it will be returning to Falmouth in the spring to offer a series of thrilling taster trips following great feedback for its last visit.

Pictured above, Mercedes, which last called at the port in 2011, is a brig that offers members of the public a chance to experience luxurious day and evening sailing. The trips provide a chance to learn the ropes and help set sails while the more laid-back can relax and let the crew do the work.

Launched in 2005, the 50-metre ship offers a high degree of comfort with a spacious main deck and well-appointed deck saloon along with elegant restaurant and bar areas. She attends most large maritime festivals in Europe and works as a charter vessel in international and UK waters.

She also has two masts of around 35 metres and is driven by a mixture of square sails and fore-and-aft sails which day-trippers can help to set, if they choose.

Those who choose to climb the rigging under supervision are guaranteed great views of the surrounding seascape – and perhaps a rush of adrenaline.

Sara Pugh of Falmouth Tall Ships Association, which works to bring tall ships to Falmouth, said the association is excited to announce the return of a ship that has proved such a big hit in the past.

“We’re delighted to welcome Mercedes back to Falmouth following a number of popular previous visits. This is a wonderful opportunity for anybody with an interest in tall ships to experience one of the very finest first-hand. Whether they want to get their hands dirty assisting the crew or simply enjoy a relaxing sail around the bay they’re sure to have a trip to remember. ”

Mercedes will sail from Falmouth Docks for two trips a day between Friday, March 29, and Sunday, March 31, and one final trip on Monday, April 1, all subject to weather.
