INDIE darlings the xx have been confirmed to headline an Eden Session on Tuesday July 2, 2013.

They join comedian Eddie Izzard, who plays on Monday June 3, on next summer’s line-up at the Eden Project with more acts to be announced soon.

The xx released their second studio album Coexist this September and hit the top of the UK album charts as well as making it into the US top ten.

Coexist follows the London trio’s eponymous platinum-selling debut album which won the Mercury Music Prize in 2009 and was ranked highly in many best of the year lists, including second in the NME and the top ten in Rolling Stone.

Last year they were nominated in three categories at the BRIT Awards – Best British Band, Best British Album and Best British Breakthrough.

The xx have forged a distinctive understated ambient indie pop sound and a number of their tracks have been used in soundtracks for TV shows and at events such as the Euro 2012 football tournament. Debut album opener Intro was also used by the BBC in their coverage of the 2010 general election.

They have a reputation for powerful live performances and their show at this year’s Bestival drew what is said to be the largest crowd in the history of the festival.

Martin Williams, Eden Project marketing director, said: “We are thrilled to be able to announce an act of such a high calibre for the 2013 Eden Sessions. We’re very excited to be hosting The xx, especially considering that we are one of just a handful of summer gigs they will be playing.”

Announced as a Sessions headliner earlier this year, Eddie Izzard will be bringing his Force Majeure show to the home of the Biomes on June 3, 2013.

Force Majeure will be the most extensive comedy tour ever. It begins its mammoth journey around the globe during spring 2013. From Cardiff to Kathmandu, Moscow to Mumbai, Eddie will visit 25 countries around the world.

The Eden Sessions are set to enter their twelfth year in 2013 following an acclaimed series of gigs in 2012 headlined by Blink-182, Plan B, Tim Minchin, Chase & Status, Noah and the Whale, The Vaccines, Example and Frank Turner.

The Eden Sessions Inside Track club returns for the 2013 season with members getting a guaranteed pair of tickets to each show. Those who buy membership before Tuesday will be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to every 2013 Session.

Tickets to The xx Eden Session cost £35 plus £5 booking fee and go on sale to Inside Track members today (Monday December 17), and on general sale at 5pm on Thursday January 3. Inside Track members have longer than usual to decide if they’d like their tickets because of the Christmas break.
