Horses, goats and Mary on a donkey took to the streets of Falmouth on Sunday as part of a live nativity.

The journey started at Events Square and paraded through Falmouth to the Moor as the entire nativity cast made the town centre their stage.

There were shouts of “Is there any room?” outside the Quayside pub and choirs of angels outside the King Charles the Martyr Church.

There was also an encounter with King Herod at his palace, which was outside the shopping arcade for the day, before following a star to The Moor.

This is the first year there has been a live nativity in Falmouth and it was mainly organised by Falmouth and Penryn Churches Together.

Michelle Legumi, the Deacon of Falmouth Methodist Church, said: “The idea was to get all the churches involved and to do something beyond the walls of the church, something everyone could engage with.”

Kelly Harries, the animal coordinator, said: “It went really well and we got great feedback.”

The festivities didn’t end when baby Jesus was born, however. There were craft stalls waiting for children and families on The Moor.

Youngsters could make their own Christmas tree decorations, pet some guinea pigs and have a go at making a snow flake. Each child also received a glowing star to remind them, as Rev Legumi said: “That Christmas is all about light and how we can be the light.”

There were almost 100 people involved in making this event happen, from animal handlers to council members, and the churches of Falmouth and Penryn have thanked everyone involved.
