Hunting trophies stolen in Helston

Hunting trophies stolen in Helston Hunting trophies stolen in Helston

Two hunting trophies have been stolen during a theft at an industrial unit near Helston.

The shoulder mounted Kudu is extremely large and has spiral horns which measure some 60 inches. The other trophy is that of an Eland, which has a horn length of 30 inches. Both were brought back to this country by their owner following a safari in South Africa in 2004.

Thieves also stole mobile phones, a Toshiba laptop, welding equipment, video cameras and charity boxes from the premises sometime between December 21 and 27.

Anyone who has any information regarding the theft is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference AH/12/1523

No, me neither. Fancy stealing the charity boxes as well, how low is that.

I Would have thought the theft of charity boxes should have been the headline and not the trophies. Yes it is very low and a very mean thing to do.

Well I suppose the headline was based on what would be most recognisable if anyone was offered them to buy. I hope the police monitor eBay. I do not condone any theft but I could understand if someone stole to survive ie food etc but a wall mounted animals head is hardly an essential.
One thing that always really annoys me is the theft of charity money.

I regularly give to charity ,even if its only loose change and it makes me so angry that people steal charity boxes.I know a lot of people are on hard times but taking money that was donated and intended for good causes is despicable. The other items they stole will obviously be sold on , but when they spend the charity money they should feel ashamed, but they wont ,else they would have left them.

I like the stuffed Kudu and I have several such 'trophies' on my walls. I know that will offend many people but I find factory farmed chickens shrink wrapped in supermarkets very offensive, so each to their own. (I buy all my meat, except cheap sausages, from a local farm.) I agree that stealing charity money is dispicable and would love to see the thieves severely punished. Maybe stuffed and mounted...

I agree each to their own choice, after all I was quite happily sitting underneath a bears head for years in a pub, although not consecutively. I have fur on the hood of my coat, although artificial, it looks like badger though so I don't suppose the farmers would mind. I just would not like the trophies on my wall because apart from the practical reasons of space, I would feel sorry for them all the time. Don't think the human rights brigade would agree with stuffing the thieves though. If caught they should make them spend x amount of hours raising money for charity.

Each to their own, i agree, the stuffed Kudu is a lovely looking thing, but i would find it a bit creepy with the eyes looking at me all the time , i am the same with historical portraits and the such ,when you look at them the eyes seem to follow you whichever way you look at them. i am probably a bit strange in thinking this way !! happy new year molesworth.

So supposing you saw a Kudo head being sold at a boot fair, do you buy it so you could rescue it for its original owner if it was stolen, or would you be taking the risk if being accused of stealing it yourself. If you call the police they may not get to the boot fair in time and if you take the registration of the vehicle they may have sold the Kudo before it is traced. Also, if you buy the Kudo and it turns out not to be stolen then you are stuck with a Kudo head you don't really want.

Sorry should have read Kudu not Kudo. not that it makes much difference to it personally seeing as it is dead anyway.

it would be a more interesting story if the kudo or eland head was possessed by a demonic spirit which would exact vengeance upon the new possessor, that would be poetic justice!

Lol, yes but what if some innocent person bought it off eBay.

True Gill, that would be unfortunate, but there's always a fall guy or two in such stories, makes it more gripping, albeit unfair

I will put a curse on it then, so if anyone buys it, it's eyes will drop out and the horns rot and fall off, so it will be no use to anyone.

It will probably back fire on me and the badger fur on my coat hood will drop off or give me TB.

I have searched my attic and have found an entire Kudu skin. I really have! I don't particularly want it but if the person who lost the Kudu head would like to make me a modest offer for it, we could come to an arrangement. Before anyone asks I only have one other skin, a Rebok, and I inherited them both.

That's funny, I just searched my "swag" sack and found a Kudu's head.
