Staff and customers at Stithian’s Seven Stars Inn have plenty to drink to after raising more than £4,100 for charities over the past year.

Within the village the money has helped buy a wheelchair for an elderly resident and boost the funds of the village scout group, church, pre-school, football club and rugby club.

Just over £700 of the money has gone to making sure the annual lantern parade continues next year, as organisers are no longer able to get funding.

Local and national cancer related charities have benefitted from £2,300, with the rest of the money going to charities in the area including the Cornwall Air Ambulance, Poppy Appeal and St Austell Brewery charitable trust.

The money was raised through donations and events taking place at the pub.

Landlords Steve Wilby and Lisa Curnow have thanked everyone involved in raising the funds and said they hoped support would continue through 2013.
