Helston and St Keverne Young Farmers’ Club took a starring role in an annual carol service at Truro Cathedral this year.

Each year a different club takes the starring role in the service for all the clubs in the county.

Members of Helston and St Keverne, together with Warleggan YFC, performed prayers, readings, took the collection and also took part in a live nativity.

Secretary Christina Jenkin, playing the role of Mary, rode the very stubborn donkey down the aisle with chairman Eddy Savage, playing the role of Joseph, luring the animal on with carrots.

Other members from Helston were playing angels and shepherds, carrying very noisy lambs down the aisle.

After the service the nativity scene was surrounded by children – and some big children – who went up to pet the very noisy lambs and the stubborn but well behaved donkey.

Afterwards the members travelled by coach to the Eden Project for a Christmas disco, where after the service everyone was feeling very festive.

Members didn’t meet last Thursday, December 27.

The previous Thursday members put on their Christmas hats and went carol singing in the Newtown/St Martin area, where they sang to advisory members and friends of Helston and St Keverne YFC.

Donations were given to be split between the two charities the club is supporting this year: the Farm Crisis Network and Cornwall Air Ambulance.
