PLANS to rebuild Falmouth Beach Resort Hotel, which was destroyed by fire last spring, have been granted conditional approval by Cornwall Council.

Flames, fanned by gale force winds, quickly ripped through the beachfront hotel on April 30 after fire broke out as workmen carried out repairs to the roof of the four-storey building. Just 16 of the 120 bedrooms survived the blaze, which was fought by ten fire crews from throughout Cornwall.

Demolition crews moved onto the site in June, while plans for a replacement hotel were being prepared. Those plans, for a 67 bedroom hotel with restaurant/bar, function suite, bistro and conference room, were submitted to Cornwall Council and have now been approved subject to several conditions.

One of these stipulates that demolition and construction work should only take place between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday; 8am and 1pm on Saturdays and not at all on Sundays or bank holidays.
