A DJ in a Falmouth bar who was pushed in the back and then punched in the face while on the dance floor was left with cuts and bruises, Truro magistrates heard.

Before the court was hotel housekeeper Liam Nankivell, aged 23, of Ferndale Road, Falmouth, who pleaded guilty to assaulting Richard Knight on June 30.

Gail Hawkley, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Mr Knight was hosting as a DJ in the Underground Bar at Falmouth and was on the dance floor dancing when this incident took place with Nankivell.

The defendant told the police afterwards he could not remember hitting him but remembered a lot of pushing and shoving. “It was a stupid drunken thing,” he said.

Nankivell, who had previous convictions, had had far too much to drink, his solicitor Paul Gallagher said, but did remember giving Mr Knight one punch.

Nankivell was told to do 180 hours of unpaid work, pay Mr Knight £100 compensation, and costs and surcharge of £145. He was also given a drink banning order for a year and banned from entering the Underground Bar in Falmouth.
