Falmouth RNLI's container ship eye injury evacuation
Falmouth offshore lifeboat was called out to a Maltese container ship last week after a crew member injured his eye with a pressure washer.
The All Weather Lifeboat Richard Cox Scott was called out by Falmouth coastguard to carry out a medical evacuation of the injured seaman from the 195m Maciej Rataj last Wednesday.
The crew arrived at the ship, anchored six miles south south-east off Falmouth, at 3pm and the casualty was taken off the ship by the pilot ladder, accompanied by a ship’s officer.
Just four minutes later the pair were safely on board the lifeboat, which headed back to station where the man was assessed by a paramedic and sent to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske for treatment.
