A thief from Carnon Downs stole alcohol from Marks & Spencer worth £223 in order to enjoy some himself and exchange the rest for heroin, Truro magistrates heard.
Daniel Catlow, aged 28, of Carnon Crescent, pleaded guilty to stealing the drink on two occasions in Truro in November, and admitted two other offences of stealing DVDs worth £150 from W H Smith in Falmouth on October 20, and stealing food and drink worth £46 from Tesco in Falmouth.
Gail O’Hagan, probation officer, said he had been on a community order and wanted to make some changes in his life, getting off street drugs.
Catlow was given a 12-month supervision order with a drugs rehabilitation requirement. He had to pay £591 in unpaid fines, costs and compensation.
