A women’s institute that should have been celebrating its 90th anniversary in a few weeks has instead been suspended on the Lizard Peninsula.
Manaccan WI has been forced to take the difficult decision to end due to a lack in women willing to take on an office in the group – in particular the role of secretary.
Vice president Pam Miller said that, with the help of the county advisors, it was “reluctantly” decided at an extraordinary general meeting to suspend the WI with immediate effect.
The suspension can last up to three years, during which time it is hoped that the group can be reinstated with the help of new members.
Mrs Miller said: “Manaccan WI has much to celebrate over 90 years. We have had a lot of fun, brilliant members, interesting speakers and we hope we have been a relevant part of the community.
“There remains a nucleus of committed members, many of whom have served in various capacities but feel, quite understandably, that they can no longer offer themselves to serve on committees.
“So if there is anyone out there who is prepared to help to revive Manaccan WI please do not hesitate to come forward – we would love to hear from you.”
