'Snow way', is that all we get? SNOW GALLERY

With the rest of the UK covered in snow, people in Cornwall could have been forgiven for feeling a little left out, until Monday.

A rare brief flurry of snow lightly dusted Falmouth and Penryn, turning the two towns into a winter wonderland for a few hours.

Packet readers awoke on Monday to a carpet of the white stuff all around and many took to social networking websites Twitter and Facebook to share their frosty photographs.

From cheery snowmen to bemused looking cats, everyone seemed to take full advantage of the snow shower before it disappeared around lunchtime.

All of Falmouth and Penryn's primary schools stayed open with only Halwin Primary School in Porkellis near Helston forced to close.

Twitter user James Speed summed up the general feeling when he took to the website to exclaim: “Snow? In Falmouth? I don’t believe it!”

There was ‘snow’ mistaking the joy that a dusting of the white stuff had on children across Helston and the Lizard Peninsula either.

Excited faces pressed against the glass soon turned into wrapped up youngsters making early morning snowmen.

Although most schools remained open, teachers were lenient over the excitement the first snowfall of the year caused and let their young charges enjoy playing outside – including at Landewednack Primary School on The Lizard.
