Primary school children from across Cornwall have taken part in a Children's University Graduation ceremony.

The ceremony at Tremough University Campus celebrated the achievements of 50 Cornish children, with the proud youngsters presented with certificates by Neil Burden, deputy leader of Cornwall Council and the portfolio holder for children's services.

“It was such a special evening for all that took part. The children came from all over Cornwall to receive their certificates and they were so excited at attending their very own graduation. So many proud parents and family members watched their children receive their certificates from Neil Burden who congratulated each child individually. The youngest was just six years old. It was such a lovely occasion,” said Lisa Neville of Cornwall Learning which manages the Children's University in the county.

“The children have taken part in a huge range of activities including surf lifesaving, judo, performing arts, gymnastics, ICT, orchestra, girl guides, scouts, even angling! They love recognition for all the learning they do in their free time and Children's University is a great way to reward their effort and commitment,” added Lisa

Young dancers from the Saturday Club in Penryn entertained the audience with a dance routine they had been preparing and the children had an extra special message of congratulations from Siberia sent by the polar explorer, Antony Jinman of ETE Teachers, Plymouth University's explorer in residence.

Children from schools and clubs in Hayle, Penzance, Marazion, Ludgvan, St Ives, Helston, Penryn, Redruth, Camborne, St. Austell, Lostwithiel, Fowey and Bodmin, all took part will take part in the ceremony which was hosted by university student ambassadors from the University of Exeter and Falmouth University.
