'Unprovoked attack' outside Falmouth pub

An unprovoked attack outside a Falmouth town centre pub landed a Mylor man in court this week.

Jake Jensen, of Springfield Park, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to assaulting David Scrivens on September 9 last year.

The 21-year-old had started arguing with Mr Scrivens outside the Cutty Sark pub for “no particular reason,” the court heard, before punching him in the face leaving him temporarily unconscious.

Prosecutor Anita Kennett said: “Mr Scrivens was doing nothing but standing talking to friends when he was punched by the defendant.”

Charley Hulley, for the defence, described the assault as “a single blow following an argument.”

“The victim did sustain an injury to his eye and fell back hitting the back of his head,” he added.

Jensen, an unemployed labourer who lives at home with his mother and partner, was given a community order for |12 months with a requirement to spend 36 hours at the Senior Attendance Centre.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation, £85 costs and was given a drink banning order for 12 months.

Either that, Meerkats, or its one for Poirot to solve:

why was there a mysterious face outside a Falmouth pub, and what was the punched man doing in it?

I'm now on a one-man campaign to get this bizarre occurrence highlighted, so am attempting to get it into the 'most commented' section on the right...

Here's my version of events in poetry form:

One night outside the Cutty Sark

A face was lurking in the dark

Which a young punched man did chance upon

And into said face did fall headlong...

LBFS.
Glad to help.

Outside the Cutty Sark one night.
Said local yob starts a fight.
Problem is the paltry fine.
A thousand quid if the choice was mine.

Thanks Claudius. I see I've now achieved my aim, albeit with a new corrected title for the article. Your poem reflects that and makes a good case.

So I'll now be winding down the campaign
