Cornish cops to sue over forced retirement

Cornish cops forced out under a regulation that allowed forces to retire officers on the grounds of efficiency are to sue.

A tribunal will hear cases related to the use of regulation A19, which makes officers who have served 30 years or more retire. Police officers cannot be made redundant.

The test cases brought by Cornwall Police Federation are understood to be seeking compensation for unfair dismissal.

The tribunal is due to take place in Croydon on 11 February.

I will be interested to see the outcome, because I was under the impression that although for the time being the A19 clause implementation has been revoked there will always be the possibility of it being enforced again at any time.
I have always been against the use of the A19 clause, I do not believe it is detrimental to the police service to dispel with officers of long term experience.

My previous post should read, I believe it is detrimental to the police service to dispel with officers of long term experience.

I wish them well at Croydon.
