A FALMOUTH hotelier's plans for a multi-million pound development which would see a four star hotel created out of Old County Hall in Truro have been formally lodged with Cornwall Council.

Nigel Carpenter, owner of the St Michael's Hotel and Spa in Falmouth is behind the ambitious scheme for 65 hotel rooms, a swimming pool, spa, conference centre and brasserie along with 14 residential units on the Station Road site.

The proposals include the conversion of Old County Hall into a 42-bedroom hotel with associated facilities, the construction of 23 apart-hotel suites on the existing car park, the demolition of buildings east of the main building with 12 residential units built in their place and the conversion of the coach-house to create a further two residential units.

The plans will now go out for consultation before Cornwall Council determines the application. The detailed plans can be viewed on the council's website, www.cornwall.gov.uk, by searching for PA13/00420.
