Tomorrow will mark the end of an era in Helston when fundraiser Margaret Fitter closes the doors of her charity shop for the last time.

From Friday Cancer Funding For Cornwall will cease to run as a shop, although the charity - through which Margret has raised more than £1 million for cancer patients - will continue to operate from its founder's home.

The shop, which has been based in Coinagehall Street for the last four years, is only the most recent incarnation of a series of fundraising outlets run by Margaret, who started with a charity rail outside her dress making agency in the old arcade (now Peacocks) in 1989.

Margaret has been forced to stand down as administrator due to ill health and has been unable to find someone to take over the running of the charity.

Despite the shop's closure, however, the charity will continue to give out grants to patients while funds remain, and people can still donate by money by calling Margaret on 01326 563940.

All the stock in the shop will be sold separately, with the money still going to benefit cancer charities in Cornwall.
