Potential Penryn playwrights with a passion for theatre are being invited to take part in the second annual town playwriting competition this week.
Penryn Community Theatre launched its annual playwriting competition last year. Dubbed “Penryn Plays Up The Jubilee” it saw four plays selected for performance at The Seven Stars pub - The Last Cornishman by Les Merton, I Remember, I Remember by Jenny Gluyas, The Road Ahead by Eleanor Maxted and The Monmouth Rebellion by Dominic Power, with each successful playwright winning £100 for their efforts.
This year’s contest calls on contributors to submit an original 20 minute play on the theme of superheroes, with the four winners receiving a share of the £400 prize money.
Competition organiser Marie MacNeill said: “Following the huge success of last year’s competition Penryn Community Theatre is looking for a quartet of one act plays to be performed this summer in the Seven Stars pub as part of Penryn Week and the Penryn Arts Festival.
“This annual playwriting event challenges all writers in Cornwall and beyond to put fingertips to keys and create an original 20 minute play set in Penryn.
“The play can be about anything as long as it involves superheroes - Imagined or real, down to earth or intergalactic.”
Penryn Community Theatre has commissioned a variety of original writing since its inception 13 years ago.
The closing date for entries is Friday, April 19 at noon. For more information email penryntheatre@live.com.
