Porthtowan residents and visitors are being invited to have their say on the future management of the beach and dunes.

A consultation event at the village hall on Saturday 16 February between 10am and 2pm, has been organised by Porthtowan Beach Working Group.

The aim to meet groups with an interest in the beach, highlight the work carried out by Cornwall Council so far, and to look at potential options for the future.

The working group was set up last year with the help of the council’s environment service following concerns raised over the long term impact of Porthtowan’s dunes on the village green and local access routes.

Cormac Solutions Ltd, working on behalf of the Council has carried out various safety improvements to the dunes including building a new sleeper wall to help retain the sand. Further works to extend this wall are planned for the near future.

“Before we take any further decisions on the future management of the beach and dune area, we would really like to offer local residents and visitors an opportunity to share their views,” said Sue Nicholls, senior beach ranger from Cormac Solutions Ltd.

“Everyone is welcome so please pop along anytime during the event and chat with members of the working group.”
